A team storm to impressive victory over Lightning counterparts
Gloucester-Hartpury Women’s A team scored 12 tries against Loughborough Lightning Ladies II on their way to a 77-15 victory.

It was the A Team’s first home fixture of the season, and the first 20 minutes saw Sophie Tandy cross the line four times with Megan Goddard converting three out of four. The Lightning scored one of their own but trailed 26-5 after the first quarter.

The Gloucester forwards dominated at set-piece time, consistently sending Loughborough backwards & giving the backs line a great platform to play from. A big carry from Anabelle Whitecross saw her stretch for the line on the 30 minute mark to extend the lead.

Loughborough replied by catching Gloucester-Hartpury sleeping at the restart, regathering possession and dotting down in the corner.

But a huge defensive scrum just before half time saw the home forwards turn the ball over and win the penalty. Megan Goddard opted to take the points and the half ended with Gloucester-Hartpury leading 36-10.

Two minutes into the second half Amelia Lavallee made a huge break through the centre of the defence and offloaded to Daisy Fahey who went over for her first try.

Another dominant catch and drive then set the forwards up 5 metres out and the Lightning were penalised for being offside. The penalty was taken quickly and Gloucester-Hartpury built phases through the forwards before quick hands from the backs sent Sarah Nicholas over in the corner.

Loughborough began to look dangerous as they offloaded well out of contact, but were unable to keep hold of the ball. Gloucester-Hartpury won another scrum penalty which was taken quickly by Milly Wallis who ran 60m to score under the posts.

There were further tries from Becky Belcher, Daisy Fahey & Sarah Nicholas. A lovely show & go from Megan Goddard at the death saw her break the line & offload to Catarina Ferrarrio who crossed in the corner. Final score 77-15.
