Appleby delighted with Gloucester-Hartpury progressing following Bristol win
Gloucester-Hartpury delivered one of their most complete performances of the season in the 53-7 Tyrrells Premier 15s victory over Bristol Bears Women on Saturday, and Head Coach Susie Appleby feels her team are moving in the right direction.

The win keeps Gloucester-Hartpury in the mix for a top four spot in the league table, just a point behind Wasps Ladies, and Appleby paid tribute to her team after the game.

“The forwards were really impressive, really dominant with their ball-carrying which provided the platform for our talented back line to function. Tatyana (Heard) and Kelly (Smith) have both come back from England duty full of confidence and were on fire.

“Tat had her first taste of an international set up during the Autumn internationals, and has made the most of it. She’s immersed herself in it, learned as much as she possibly can and applied it when she’s come back to us.

“The same applies to Kelly and Millie (Wood) and also Zoe (Aldcroft) who is just imperious at the moment. With those players performing as they are, everything else sort of functions around it.

“And I have to mention Sian Williams, who was our Player of the Match. She does all the unseen stuff, all the dog work if you like. She was at every breakdown, carried loads of ball, she was outstanding.

“It was a good performance to take us into the Loughborough game this weekend. One of the most pleasing aspects was that, against the good sides, you’ve got to press home your advantage when you’re on top. And we did that.

“Our progress is pleasing, because generally, we look like we can dominate and keep dominating which is what we need to do if we’re to become genuine top four contenders.”
