Gloucester Rugby host Newcastle Falcons in Round 6 of the Gallagher Premiership on Saturday. Ahead of the fixture, Ben Morgan previewed the game, talked about the success of the maul and opened up on the impact of fans.
On London Irish
“It’s one of frustration for sure. I think London Irish, certainly in that first half, came out and really fired at us which probably caught us a little bit cold. That’s the biggest frustration for us. It was our first away game for some time and it’s just led us to have a look at our preparation leading into it and the reasons as to why it took us 40 minutes to get firing and fire some shots ourselves.”
On the success of the maul
“The lads around me are working really hard. I’ve been lucky enough to have some spoils off the back of it. It’s been months of hard work in pre-season. Skivs set out some pretty straight forward directives with our maul and everyone’s really bought into it and we’re getting the rewards from it.
“You can feel the buzz around this place when it gets going and also our backs, they’ve got real confidence in our set piece. It gives us a great platform to play off.”
On Newcastle Falcons
“You don’t get an easy game in the Premiership. Newcastle coming down here is another big game and it’s an opportunity for us as well. It’ an opportunity for us to really continue. We’ve had some good form at home and we’re looking forward to welcoming them here. It will be good to iron out a few frustrations from that first half against Irish so we’re looking forward to it.”
On fans back at Kingsholm
“It’s been fantastic to have people back. That’s what we play for, a packed stadium. I came here as a little boy watching the likes of Terry Fanolua and Andy Deacon so being out on the field and being able to do it myself is a real honour. It’s a buzz like no other and the new guys who have come in this year have really noticed it when they’ve run out.”
