Ceri Large to skipper Gloucester-Hartpury against Saracens Women
Gloucester-Hartpury welcome the Tyrrells Premier 15s pacesetters, Saracens Women, to the Gillman’s Ground on Saturday afternoon (kick off 4:30pm), with fly-half Ceri Large captaining the side.

Saracens have only lost once in the Tyrrells Premier 15s so far this season, but had a scare last weekend when they left it late to defeat Harlequins Ladies.

They will present a tough proposition for a Gloucester-Hartpury side that is deprived of the services of a couple of key forwards in Sasha Acheson and club captain Zoe Aldcroft. Returning from injury, though, is centre Tatyana Heard.

However, Head Coach Susie Appleby, despite the strength of the visitors, insists that her side are relishing the challenge.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the league leaders Saracens to Hartpury on Saturday.

“We’ve had a couple of enforced changes through injuries to Sasha Acheson and our captain Zoe Aldcroft, this provides opportunities for Elle Febrey to get her first start of the season and Charlotte Faux to get another deserved start, with Emily Underwood moving into the front row.

“We welcome back experienced number 8 Shona Powell-Hughes and centre Tat Heard from injury, both bring with them a really physical carrying game. Dyddgu Hywel returns to the 15 shirt, to make up the back 3 with the ever impressive duo of Kelly Smith and Ellie Underwood.

“It’s going to be a great day of rugby at Hartpury on Saturday, our A team kick off at the same time as Hartpury RFC at 2.30pm, then the first team play Saracens at 4:30.

“Saracens are a really strong team, with pace and power all over the park, and some really smart players. They had a bit of a shock against Quins last week, and left it until late in the game to secure the win, and will no doubt be determined to put an improved performance on the field this weekend.

“Our players are really excited to play against the team at the top of the league, we’ve managed to secure bonus point wins in our last two games but our performances haven’t been convincing. We will need to put an excellent and consistent performance on the field this Saturday to give us a chance of competing against a quality side like Saracens.

“We both like to run with the ball and score tries so let’s hope the crowd see an entertaining game of rugby!”
