Gloucester Rugby travel to Coventry for the final pre-season fixture this weekend and ahead of the game, we caught up with Defence Coach Dom Waldouck to preview the match.
“There’s some lads coming into the game against Coventry who haven’t had as many opportunities in the first two games as they might have liked so it’s a brilliant opportunity for them to go and show what they’ve been showing on the training park throughout pre-season.”
On Ealing fixtures
“Reflecting on the exercise, it was just the perfect preparation for Premiership rugby. Ealing were physical and when we didn’t control play as we wanted, they hurt us. I think we showed big leaps in the things that we focused on from the previous week so in terms of exercising that review process and seeing stuff play out in our game the following week that was great to see.”
“It’s the perfect opportunity to deepen understanding and principals and the ability to execute what we are trying to achieve. As a coaching group we haven’t had this period of time to embed our ideas so it’s been a real welcome period of time for us to really deepen our understanding of what we are trying to do.”
On the new training facility
“We’re back in Gloucester, everything is under one roof. We’ve celebrated the history of the club in pre-season and some of the great men who have worn the shirt before us. I think it all beds into the idea of us being back in Gloucester, making sure the lads know that they are part of something bigger here.
“George Skivington has done a great job in bringing that heritage alive and the lads have warmed to it massively. They really love to understand what they are part of.”
