Former Gloucester Rugby player Brian Lane passes away
Everyone at Gloucester Rugby was saddened to hear of the recent passing of former player, Brian Lane.

Brian, who passed away on July 5th, was the Tax Inspector for Oxford for many years. He was a Gloucester man through and through and played rugby for Bath, England U19s, the RAF and his beloved Cherry and Whites.

He was an outstanding prop.  He was very mobile for that position, especially in those days back in the 1950s when props were for scrummaging and not seen much around the field.

Brian scored a lot of tries, 15 from his 68 appearances. In March 1957 he scored tries in three successive games against Northampton, RAF and Guy's Hospital.

He would no doubt have played more times for Gloucester had he not spent at least two years doing his National Service. He played twice for the RAF in the Triangular Tournament against the Army and Royal Navy in 1953 and once for Gloucestershire in October 1956 against Somerset.

Our thoughts are with his family.
