Former players play their part in Gloucester Rugby’s 5000th game celebrations
Last Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership victory over the Northampton Saints was notable for being Gloucester Rugby’s 5000th competitive fixture. And the occasion was made that little bit more special as a number of former players were our guests at the game.

Led by current Club President Fred Reed, the list of names included many individuals who can quite rightly be called Gloucester Rugby legends. A special mention to the oldest former player present on the day – Ken Daniell, a sprightly 93-year-old.

The former players received a fantastic reception from the Kingsholm faithful as they made a lap of appreciation before the game and then formed a guard of honour as the Gloucester Rugby and Northampton Saints teams took the field.

Gloucester Rugby CEO Stephen Vaughan was delighted at the turnout:

“As a club, we like to think of ourselves as being forward-thinking. However, at the same time, we proudly embrace our heritage and history.

“To see so many great names of yesteryear joining us to mark our 5000th game celebrations was amazing. They’ve played such a massive role in the history of Gloucester Rugby that it was a privilege to have them as our guests on the day.”
