George Skivington looking to build on positives vs Bristol Bears

Gloucester Rugby travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol Bears in the Gallagher Premiership on Friday. Ahead of the fixture, George Skivington previewed the trip down the M5.

On Saints win

“Newport was a gritty game, and I was very pleased with the result and the attitude from last week but going into the Saints game, we wanted to play a little bit more rugby. The challenge was to do that and play smart rugby in the right areas of the field and I thought for the most part we did that.

“We had a 10-minute spell where we were a little bit loose, and we didn’t quite get it right and Saints being a very good team were able to get back in the game.

“I thought there were some good steps forward but as always there’s a lot to work on for sure.”

On Challenge Cup quarter final vs Saracens

“It’s really special. We’re really lucky that it’s here at Kingsholm and hopefully we’ll sell the place out for that and it will be a really good night. Saracens obviously pose a massive challenge, and we’ll get to that in a few weeks.

“It’s massively exciting when you get to the knockout stages of any tournament and you’ve got to be fully prepared, knowing that if you win you play another game and if you lose then you don’t.”

On preparations for Bristol

“It’s obviously a shorter week but the boys are in a good spot. There are some positive bits from the last game that we’re going to build on and a few areas that we’ve spent a lot of time trying to address. The boys are looking sharp and we’d like to continue that into this week.

“We know what a threat Bristol are. They’re a seriously good team regardless of league position or anything like that. We know that they’ve got some seriously threatening individuals who can do amazing things. They’ve got a strong set piece and a good game. All of their games are tight and their last two weekends could have gone either way. They were physical battles and we know that it’s going to be a tough game on Friday.

“We’re fully aware that Friday is a massive challenge for us and we’re excited about it and we’re looking forward to getting there. Obviously it’s a big challenge and it’s a really important game for us.”

On the games coming up at Kingsholm

“It's going to be a busy week! It’s exciting to be in different competitions and they’re all local derbies and I think that’s really exciting, and the good thing is that everyone is going to get some rugby. Everyone in the club is excited and there’s a real buzz.”
