George Skivington looks forward to Friday night at Kingsholm

Gloucester Rugby host London Irish at Kingsholm on Friday night. After a win against Newcastle Falcons last time out, Head Coach George Skivington is looking forward to returning home and putting on a show for the Cherry and White fans.

On Newcastle win

“I’m really pleased. It’s really hard to go up there and a lot of teams struggle. I’ve certainly been up there plenty of times and come away the wrong end of it. You throw in a little bit of adversity in the day, which isn’t ideal, but I was really proud of the boys. I thought they really took control of the situation and they were ready to go and I had to tell them to calm down when there was another four hours until kick off.

“We had a bit more food and we found a way to get as comfortable as we could. When we got to the game I thought their heads were screwed on and they delivered a really good performance on what was a seriously windy day!”

On the tight nature of the league

“You see the results last weekend, it’s a bit cliché and everyone’s saying it all the time but, anyone can beat anyone, and it is just a relentless league. You’ve got to turn up every week and you’ve got to be really on it.

“We’re only just over halfway through the season so there’s a long way to go in this league and there will be lots of twists and turns no doubt and we never take any game for granted.”

On London Irish

“London Irish are playing really well. They score a lot of tries and they’ve got a really strong attacking game. Their defence is very good and they are very physical. They’ve got a lot of international caps and they have a star-studded squad. We’re very aware of what’s coming. They played well against Exeter and we know that it’s going to be a massive challenge for us.”

On the Gloucester Rugby fans

“Fair play to everyone who came to Newcastle! Everyone would have made plans, like us, to be there for a 3pm kick off and everyone stayed around until 7pm. The noise they made was brilliant and it always is every time we go away. I’m always impressed with the numbers that come and their enthusiasm.

“We obviously get a lot more fans when we’re at home and I’m sure those guys are always here as well and Kingsholm is such a great place to come to. I love it, the coaches love it and everyone involved loves a home game here.

“A Friday night, it’s very very special and we always look forward to getting in and seeing a full crowd.”
