Get involved with World Homeless Day at Kingsholm
Gloucester Rugby is running several initiatives to mark World Homeless Day which takes place on Thursday 10 October.

During the week itself, the club will be continuing to work with Gloucester City Mission to collect supplies to help the homeless. It’s something that Gloucester Rugby supporters have generously supported in the past, and we hope to make a difference again this year.

Items that are sought are as follows:

Sleeping bags, coffee, sugar (not tea), pasta, passata, jeans (male and female in various sizes), t-shirts, trainers and clean underwear.

Also, deodorants, small travel size shower gels, sanitary products and rucksack style bags.

On World Homeless Day itself, Thursday 10 October, we will then be holding various events at Kingsholm to the day.

In the morning we are inviting sixth form students from across the county to attend a two hour session at the stadium. This will include a Game of Life Interactive Activity, plus the opportunity for students to find out about the cause and effects of homelessness.

In the afternoon a ‘Market Place’ networking event will be run where local agencies will be in attendance, providers of services who work with the homeless or those at risk as well as some of the providers who engage people with mental health issues.

This is to enable organisations to sign post clients they are working with and also improve the knowledge of staff by giving them a better insight into some of the amazing work that happens across the city.

Then in the evening, from 8pm, the Try the Night in The Shed sleep out will commence, when up to 100 participants will spend the night in the Shed with only cardboard (and old advertising boards!) and a sleeping bag!

There will be a presentation from Gloucester City Mission to raise awareness of homelessness before the sleep out commences.

There is still time to get involved with the sleep out, email Sarah Lee at Gloucester Rugby for further details. We’d also like to appeal to any local businesses to donate cardboard to assist.

We are running the day in Partnership with Gloucester City Mission (GCM), and all fundraising monies will be split between GCM and Gloucester Rugby Community Charity’s Homeless Rugby Programme.
