Gloucester-Hartpury contingent to face off at Twickenham on Sunday afternoon

Gloucester-Hartpury contingent to face off at Twickenham on Sunday afternoon
Gloucester-Hartpury Women have players in both the Barbarians Women and England Women squads for Sunday’s fixture between the two sides, while Liza Burgess is also part of the Barbarians coaching set-up.

It will be a memorable day for both Millie Wood and Ceri Large who will become the second and third Gloucester-Hartpury players to don the famous black and white hoops, following Megan Goddard in October 2017.

Millie will start the game at outside centre while Ceri is named amongst the replacements.

Meanwhile, there are four Gloucester-Hartpury players in Simon Middleton’s England squad.

Kelly Smith, the top try-scorer in this season’s Tyrrells Premier 15s starts on the left wing and is joined in the starting line-up by her club captain, Zoe Aldcroft. Mo Hunt and Tatyana Heard are named amongst the replacements.

Middleton said:

“This is the first time England Women has played the Barbarians and we know it will be a fantastic occasion.

“The Barbarians side is really experienced with 946 caps between the players which will make the game a real challenge.  The Red Roses want to play the best possible teams and a Barbarians side with this level of strength and depth will guarantee a testing encounter.

“Our last run out at Twickenham against Scotland in the Six Nations produced an incredibly impressive performance by the team and although we’re fielding a very changed side, with several players out due to injury, Sunday’s game will be a great opportunity for younger players to step up.

“This match is an important next step in our summer tour preparations and in the longer term as we build up to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2021.”

The game will kick off at Twickenham at 12:45pm and is live on Sky Sports.
