Gloucester-Hartpury Women 5 - 22 Harlequins Women | Report by Sophie Tandy
Gloucester-Hartpury faced an unbelievably tough battle today at the Alpas Arena, as Harlequins visited Gloucestershire.
The first try from Harlequins came after 14 minutes when Jade Konkel, fired off a driving maul. These were to be the only points scored in the first half. Gloucester-Hartpury were a defensive wall, not letting anyone through and putting pressure on the opposition. Leanne Riley was soon yellow carded, giving Gloucester-Hartpury an attacking opportunity. Big hits, kicking for territory and strong carriers capitalised the first half.
Gloucester-Hartpury came back after half time, and it wasn’t long until Harlequins secured a second try. Lagi Tuima burst out of the defensive line and intercepts, running all the way from half-way. Gloucester-Hartpury came back strong, giving Shona Powell-Hughes a quick ball to score over the white wash. Shaunagh Brown continued to add points for Harlequins, showing the real power of their driving mauls. Once again Harlequins use their forwards to get their driving maul fired up and see’s Amy Cokayne secure them a bonus point win.
A tremendous battle between both sides, resulted in Harlequins coming away with a win in round 6.
