Gloucester-Hartpury Women name team for local derby at Worcester Valkyries
Gloucester-Hartpury Women return to Tyrrells Premier 15s action on Saturday afternoon facing a short trip up the M5 to take on local rivals, Worcester Valkyries.

It’s the first competitive action for Gloucester-Hartpury since the 50-20 victory over Firwood Waterloo Ladies on December 22nd and, with just five rounds left to play, Susie Appleby’s side are just one point outside the play-off spots.

With the exception of Tatyana Heard, Gloucester-Hartpury’s England EPS contingent are available with Mo Hunt making her first start for the club. And there is also an opportunity for young full-back Emma Sing.

The Valkyries may still be looking for their first victory of the season, but Gloucester-Hartpury Head Coach Susie Appleby feels that their league position doesn’t reflect their quality and potential.

“It seems a long time since we played and the girls are raring to get going. Mo Hunt gets her first start with us which releases Taz Bricknell back to her preferred position in the back row. Mo made a huge impact off the bench against Waterloo scoring two tries, she brings huge energy to the team, and alongside Ceri a wealth of experience to our half back pairing.

“Emma Sing is a youngster who has been playing very well in the A team and we are excited to give her a first start in the full back shirt. Tatyana Heard is still on the sidelines which allows Shauna Bennett and Millie Wood to further consolidate an increasingly confident midfield pairing.

“In the front row, Katie Dougan has been in excellent form, and we welcome back Sasha Acheson at a critical time in the season.

“Worcester have some excellent players; Laura Keates returning from a long lay-off is a huge boost to them, joining up with Lark Davies and an excellent young prop Akina Gondwe in the front row.

“They have a good blend of experience and youth, and we know we cannot be complacent when we go to Sixways on Saturday. They are a far better side than their league position shows, and we need to be more physical than them, outthink them, outsmart them, and be accurate in everything we do, to get the result we need.

“Nothing less than a really good performance on Saturday will do to take us into the Saracens fixture next week and continue our push for the playoff spot.”
