Gloucester-Hartpury Women name team for Saturday’s trip to Saracens
Having won four of their first five games in the Tyrrells Premier 15s to date, Gloucester-Hartpury Women face a tough trip on Saturday to take on unbeaten Saracens Women at Allianz Park.

With a number of players unavailable due to international training camps, there are three changes to the line-up that started last weekend’s win over Worcester Warriors Women.

In the back line, Lleucu George starts alongside Millie Wood in midfield and there is a debut at scrum-half for Welsh international Meg Davies. There is just one change to the pack where Connie Powell comes in at hooker.

Having announced her team today, Head Coach Susie Appleby admitted that Saracens will pose the biggest challenge of the season to date.

“Selection has been tough this week with some excellent performances against Worcester last Saturday.

“Saracens are a big physical team so we’ve gone for size up front. Connie Powell has been playing really well and, with El Perry, Ti Tauasosi and Zoe Aldcroft in fantastic form, we are really hoping to compete with them up front.

“Our impact players have a huge job to do and Shona Powell-Hughes, in particular, brings huge experience and physicality.

“With Mo (Hunt) unavailable due to a family wedding, we’ve been able to reward Meg Davies with a start at scrum-half. At 17 years old, she’s already capped for Wales and is a hugely exciting young player who thrives on these big challenges.

“Lleucu George, her Welsh compatriot, gets her first start of the season at 12. Lleucu is incredibly powerful and has unbelievable skill levels, if anybody can unlock the Sarries defence it’s her.

“Meanwhile, Mia Venner scored a hat trick from 15 last week and she will be hoping to impress again.

“Our squad is evolving every week, there is unbelievable competition for shirts which is brilliant! Last week we took lots of steps in the right direction, our decision making was better and we put in an 80 minute performance.

“This week has to be more of the same, the key is to match Saracens physically then make accurate decisions on the ball. We always have brilliant games up at Allianz Park and we see Saturday’s encounter as being no different!"
