Gloucester Rugby announce new partnership with Headspace
Gloucester Rugby is committed to looking for methods to support players and staff in a bid to gain a competitive edge, and has teamed up with Headspace in an innovative new move.

Mindfulness practice has been shown to help reduce stress, improve focus and support quality sleep. Headspace is meditation made simple, teaching life-changing mindfulness skills in just a few minutes a day.

A number of the Gloucester Rugby players and staff have been using Headspace for some time now and are already enjoying the benefits according to Gloucester Rugby’s Head of Performance Analysis, Darren Lewis:

“Headspace provides a great way for the individual to take a few moments out of their day, to focus on being in the present and develop some simple tools that can be applied in varying situations every day.

“It’s certainly a project I’m excited about and am really happy with the synergy between our rugby program and Headspace. I’m looking forward to evolving the relationship between Gloucester Rugby and Headspace over the duration of the season.”

Lindsay Shaffer, Head of Sports and Fitness at Headspace, added:

“Athletes know that to perform at their best, they have to be mentally strong, focused and present. Yet many athletes expect the mind to perform without working at it. We would never expect our body to achieve its fullest potential without training day in and day out, so why do we expect this of our mind?

“As one of the premier rugby clubs in the world, Gloucester is leading the way in integrating mental training through meditation and mindfulness into their club culture for a competitive advantage.”
