Gloucester Rugby Community Charity team up with NSPCC to launch the Fine Wine Challenge

Gloucester Rugby Community Charity team up with NSPCC to launch the Fine Wine Challenge
The NSPCC’s renowned Fine Wine Challenge is happening in Gloucestershire for the first time.

Taking place at Kingsholm on Thursday 20 June 2019 this is a wine-tasting quiz with a difference. Those taking part are encouraged to convince opposing teams of their wine knowledge and, in exchange for donations, cheat their way to the challenge trophy.

Expert wine merchants, Averys, will handpick a selection of interesting wines to make the night one to remember for those taking part.

Those keen to be a part of this fun-filled competitive evening with a twist will enjoy a sparkling drinks reception on arrival followed by a selection of antipasti, cheeses and artisan breads. This will all be complemented by a range of unusual wines generously supplied by event sponsor, Averys.

The evening will be hosted by presenter of hit BBC series ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ jungle survivor, Martin Roberts.

The event will conclude with an auction of exclusive prizes.

Tables are limited and booking early is advised. Each table seats 10 people and is priced at £650.

The NSPCC is running the challenge in partnership with The Gloucester Rugby Community Charity. Both charities will benefit from the money raised.

The NSPCC funds a Schools’ Service in Gloucestershire, teaching thousands of children how to recognise the signs of abuse.

Trained members of staff and volunteers deliver Speak Out Stay Safe assemblies to primary school children across the county. The assemblies empower children to know the different kinds of abuse, spot the signs and identify a trusted adult they can speak to if they are concerned.

Community Fundraising Manager, Caroline Morgan, says: “The work we do to help children simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of those who fundraise for us. It’s the first time we’ve held the event in Gloucestershire and we’re really excited about it because it’s a lot of fun.

"It’s a good chance for those taking part to sample some top-quality wines, whilst entertaining colleagues and clients. They’ll be invited to bend the rules in pursuit of the Fine Wine Challenge trophy, exchanging tips and answers in return for charitable donations.”

Helen Chu, Gloucester Rugby Education and Funding manager, says: “The Gloucester Rugby Community Charity works with over 150 local schools and clubs every year reaching over 12,000 young people. We want to help ensure children feel confident and supported to speak out and stay safe, which is why we are working in partnership with the NSPCC.

We rely on donations to fund our charity projects and the money raised from this event will be put into our engagement programmes that work with disadvantaged young people in Gloucestershire, including children with disabilities. Please come and join us for what is set to be an enjoyable night”.
