One of Gloucester Rugby’s latest recruits graduated from the HITZ programme and has come in to fill the position of commis chef as part of the catering department.
HITZ is Premiership Rugby’s award-winning education and employability programme and Theo Laffort joined the course at the start of the year and developed skills like resilience, discipline and self-confidence and has now stepped up into full time employment with the club.
Having enquired about working in the kitchen whilst on the HITZ course, Theo took the opportunity that came his way when the position became available.
Performance Chef Will Carvalho is excited to have a new member on the team and is looking forward to seeing how Theo steps up into the role.
"When I started to take over this catering project, I spoke with Theo and I said that when the apprentice commis-chef position becomes available, we will get him on board and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
“Theo has a passion for cooking. He's a good team player who wants to learn and I think he will be a very good member of the kitchen and the club.
“It's good that there is a line of people coming from the HITZ programme and hopefully we will have more people join us as well.”
Theo is pleased to have started with Gloucester Rugby and is getting stuck into his new job.
"I really like it. I started HITZ at the start of the year and then this opportunity came to work with the club in the kitchen.
"Mat and Mike, the guys who run the programme, they really helped me a lot with my confidence and improved my skills.
"HITZ was great and it really helped me get this job which I am really enjoying."
