Gloucester Rugby gets ready to welcome Anton Momberg to Kingsholm
Everyone at Gloucester Rugby would like to extend a very warm welcome to Anton Momberg who is attending his first game at Kingsholm this weekend!

Anton hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. Anton grew up in Bethal, a small farming town, in Mpumalanga, which is approximately 95 miles east of Johannesburg. His love of rugby and the oval shaped ball began through his late father’s love of the game being an avid fan of the then ‘Transvaal’ team.

Anton is a huge fan of his team the ‘Golden Lions’, whose home is the Emirates Airline Stadium, formerly Ellis Park, where he has watched his beloved team and the Springboks in action.

From the highs of victory to the disappointment of each loss, he supports them through thick and thin and hence refers to himself as “Player 23”. He recounts his best day was witnessing, The Golden Lions, winning the Currie Cup Tournament in 2011 against The Sharks, a side packed with Springboks players.

Taking a keen interest in Gloucester Rugby due to the number of former Lions at the club, including Head Coach Johan Ackermann, Anton started to post on the ‘Gloucester Rugby is my Holm’ Facebook page and quickly made some good friends amongst Gloucester Rugby fans as a result.

An idea was hatched to get Anton over here to a game and a crowdfunding campaign ensued. The Glaws family did the rest and the result is that he’s here today!

Anton and sister, Linda, arrived into Heathrow Airport on Tuesday and were greeted by several Gloucester fans.

The supporters, staff, squad and coaching team all look forward to welcoming him to the Glaws Family in person, with this amazing trip planned culminating in the trip to the Shed!
