Gloucester Rugby host U15 Girls Rugby Festival

Gloucester Rugby host U15 Girls Rugby Festival
The Kingsholm turf played host to 12 school's as a season of Girls Rugby sessions culminated in the Under 15s Festival.

The Gloucester Rugby Community team have been delivering workshops throughout the year with the girls testing their skills, trying new drills and learning techniques to improve their games. Led by Community Coach, and England and Gloucester-Hartpury Women scrum half Bianca Blackburn, the training sessions have proved valuable to increasing girls participation in rugby across the county.

In round robin style tournament, each school played 5, 10-a-side games, at 10 minutes long, refereed by Gloucester-Hartpury Women's players, including England international Ceri Large, and coaches Susie Appleby and Liza Burgess.

The festival was all about participation and giving the girl opportunity to play on a fantastic stadium and play some competitive rugby against others schools. Local clubs were also invited to share information about their girls teams and how to get involved locally.

Commenting on the Under 15s festival, Bianca said:

"It is fantastic to see so many girls playing rugby, taking part, and displaying so much enthusiasm. To be able to host this festival at Kingsholm is a brilliant opportunity for the girls to put what they have learnt into practise, but more importantly just enjoy playing rugby."

Well done to each school involved, and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
