Gloucester Rugby name team for trip into Shark infested water

George Skivington has named his squad for Round 16 of the Gallagher Premiership which sees Gloucester Rugby travel to the AJ Bell to play Sale Sharks, as Jonny May is set to make his 150th appearance in Cherry & White.

There are four changes to the starting 15 that hosted La Rochelle last time out in the European Champions Cup with Jack Singleton, Alex Craig, Jack Clement and Charlie Chapman all coming in to the starting line up.

Santiago Carreras, Louis Rees-Zammit and Jonny May, start in the back three with the centre combination of Chris Harris and Mark Atkinson in action again.

There is a Gloucester Rugby Academy feel at half back with graduate Charlie Chapman starting at scrum-half alongside George Barton who keeps his shirt at fly-half.

In the forwards, Jack Singleton is joined by Val Rapava-Ruskin and Fraser Balmain in the front row with Ed Slater linking up with Alex Craig behind them at second row.

Jack Clement starts at blindside flanker with Ruan Ackermann at No.8 and captain Lewis Ludlow starting on the openside.

George Skivington is looking forward to the encounter.

“I think they’ve got a really good squad. They only just missed out on the play offs last year. They’ve got a good squad and they are very physical with a tough, work hard mentality. I think Alex Sanderson has come in and pushed them even more. They are third in the league for a reason. They are physical and smart with how they play and they use their strengths well. Marland Yarde is flying out wide as well as all their boys on the wing to be fair.

“I think they are a smart rugby team. They are resilient and tough and they stick together. I don’t think what happened in La Rochelle is a reflection of where they’re at. I think they’d do a few things differently just like we would if we played them again.”
