Gloucester Rugby name team for trip to Newcastle Falcons

George Skivington has picked his Gloucester Rugby side to face Newcastle at Kingston Park on January 9th.

Gloucester Rugby have made three changes to the starting 15 that played Sale Sharks last time out. Joe Simpson, Matias Alemanno and Matt Garvey all come into the starting 15 with Santiago Carreras set to make his Cherry and White debut off the bench.

Val Rapava-Ruskin, James Hanson and Fraser Balmain continue in the front row with a new starting combination of Matt Garvey and Matias Alemanno behind them in the second row. Alex Craig keeps a place in the starting team but will play blindside flanker where he is joined in the back-row by Ruan Ackermann at No.8 and Lewis Ludlow who resumes the captaincy from openside flanker.

In the backs, Joe Simpson makes his first appearance in four games and will link up with Lloyd Evans who is making the 10 jersey his own this season. Mark Atkinson and Chris Harris resume their partnership in the midfield and have an unchanged back three of Jonny May, Kyle Moyle and Louis Rees-Zammit outside them.

Head Coach George Skivington knows that Newcastle will provide a stern test for his side.

“Newcastle have had an outstanding start back in the Premiership and they are a well organised team who play really good rugby and I take my hat off to them. Their set piece is very good and they play to their strengths.

“They’ve come up angry with a point to prove and it shows in their performances. I thought they were actually really good against Bristol and they had a few players off but they delivered a really comprehensive game. Bristol are obviously an extremely good team and managed to win. I don’t think Newcastle’s frame of mind will have changed from where it was from when they first came up.”
