Gloucester Rugby U18s confirm team for London Irish trip.
The Gloucester Rugby U18s have named their team for their Premiership Rugby Academy League Round Five clash at London Irish this Saturday (KO midday), with an exciting squad looking to maintain the team’s unbeaten campaign so far ahead of the final pair of fixtures.

The Under 18s delivered a stunning comeback win against Harlequins last time out, Oli Parmar’s dramatic late try, coupled with George Barton’s nerveless conversion capping a 21-point swing in the final three minutes.

The U18 Junior Academy used their bye week to play against the Ospreys U18s coming back 32-12 winners. Majority of the group being U17s and the squad rotated to give opportunities to others. The group had a week’s rest to catch up on their academic studies, spend time at home and general break from the rigours of Academy League rugby.

Josh Gray and George Barton both return to the starting line-up this weekend, Barton teaming up with Matt Jones at half back, with Gray restored to a talented back row alongside captain Joe Howard and Jack Clement.

Isaac Marsh returns to the midfield, alongside Louis Hilman-Cooper, with try scorer Oli Parmar and Louis Rees-Zammit on the wings, Brooke Turner continues at full back.

Harry Fry, Ethan Hunt and Jenson Boughton make up the front row, with Archie Benson and Freddie Thomas named in the engine room of the forward pack.

Junior Academy Manager Alex Guest knows that the side need to be at their best to come out on top against a dangerous London Irish outfit at Hazelwoods Centre this weekend.

“It’s always been thrilling encounters between the two sides. Two seasons ago we were 30-7 down at half time going on to win 30-33. Last season proved to be another tight score line between the two teams with us winning 20-18 at home.

“Saturday's game is the penultimate pool fixture before the U18s head to Exeter Chiefs in the final league game of the season. Two victories from the last two fixtures will ensure a place in the Academy League final for the second year running.

“Our heads are focussed solely on London Irish. They’re a high scoring team and have threats from 1 to 15. Our break has come at the perfect time allowing the boys to refresh, refocus and reinvest in the programme.

“It’s important to give these guys breaks when and where we can within their schedules. Tom Jameson (Education Officer) has been vital at keeping up to date with the players academic progress. Having met with several schools he’s agreed revision and coursework plans with the group as we try to ease the pressures on these boys.”

“Sunday will also see our U17 group take on the South West U18s at home. This again is another opportunity to see our U17 group show off their skills and express themselves in a Gloucester Rugby shirt.”

There will be live updates of Saturday’s fixture on the @GlosRugby_Acad Twitter page from midday.
