Gloucester Rugby travel to the Rec on Boxing Day to play Bath in the West Country Derby. Ahead of the fixture, Jonny May previewed the game.
Looking forward to Boxing Day
“It’s been a good week for us. We’re happy with the work we’ve put in so far this season, and we feel like we’re making good progress.
“We also know how big a game this is going to be at the weekend. Bath won’t be happy with where they’re at but we’re aware that they are still a very strong team and that they are going to want to get a win so it’s going to be two teams really going for it on Boxing Day.
“It’s an exciting game to play in, the Southwest Derby. It’s going to be a good game and we’re looking forward to it.”
On playing in a derby
“Of course, every game is worth four or five points and each game adds to where you finish in the table at the end of the season, but you are aware in the back of your head that it is the Southwest Derby and that there is that added intensity to the week and a bit more edge to it.
“The mindset is very much that it’s another important game for us and we want to keep improving.”
“We’ll see the very best of Bath this weekend. The margins are so fine in this league and the games they have lost have been very very tight and with one or two little changes in those games they could have very easily won a few games.
“We’re aware of Bath, they’re a really strong team and they’re going to be at their very best desperate for a win and it’s going to be a very tough game for us.”
