Lewis Ludlow “hugely excited” for Saracens at Kingsholm

Gloucester Rugby host Saracens at Kingsholm in the final game of the season and captain Lewis Ludlow is looking forward to the fixture.

On the final game of the season

“I’m hugely excited. It’s what everybody wants. It’s the last game of the season and there’s something to play for. We’ve been here in the past where the last game has been a dead rubber and it’s hard to get yourself up for it but there’s no excuse for anyone not to be up for this game against Saracens. Especially after what happened the last time they came here. We feel like we’ve got a point to prove and we want to take it to them like we did in that away fixture.”

On Saracens

“We need to beat them. We need to go out there and win. We know what’s coming but you still have to beat that. It takes a lot to do it and we’ve proven that we can do it but we’ve also been convincingly beaten ourselves. We’ve got that in the back of our minds so we’re taking nothing for granted and will go out there and give it everything.

“They are relentless. They are like a machine with how they constantly come at you. Their game management is very good and they’ve got some really experienced players. For us, it’s how we manage the game and how we stay in the game. If we do that, like we did up at their place, then we give ourselves a chance. It’s just about managing how we do that and that’s down to me and the other leaders, how we can do that this week leading up into Saturday.”

On it being all to play for

“Nobody wants to play in a dead rubber. The fact that it’s going to be a packed out Kingsholm, we’ll be loving it and the crowd will be buzzing. It’ll be a nice day. We’ll go out there, play some rugby and enjoy ourselves. If we back our processes and do what we want to do, then we give ourselves a chance.”

On the Gloucester Rugby fans

“You feel like everyone here is backing you. You feel like you have to represent that. You feel like the city is behind you and there’s almost a little bit of fear, you don’t want to let anyone down. When you win and you see the smiles on people’s faces, you’ve made their weekend and they are buzzing. It’s a great feeling.”
