Match Preview – Exeter Chiefs v Gloucester Rugby

Match Preview – Exeter Chiefs v Gloucester Rugby
The Cherry and Whites are on the road this weekend, making the trip South to Sandy Park to take on table-topping Exeter Chiefs in a mouth-watering Gallagher Premiership Round Eight clash (KO 1pm)

After a pair of wins, the Cherry and Whites travel to take on the unbeaten Chiefs, themselves fresh from a dramatic late win at Ashton Gate last weekend.

Here are some players to keep an eye on this weekend.

Val Rapava Ruskin

After missing out through a virus last time out, the front rower returns to the starting line up at Sandy Park this weekend. With the forecast not looking too friendly, the battle up front could go some way to deciding the fate of this weekend’s game.

Matt Kvesic

The former Cherry and White back rower has started the season in fine form for the Devonians in a strong back row unit. Not just a threat on the deck, Kvesic possesses a great work rate, and danger with ball in hand and will need to be kept quiet this weekend.

Last Time Out

Gloucester Rugby 36-13 Leicester Tigers

Bristol Bears 29-31 Exeter Chiefs

Last Time We Met

Exeter Chiefs only loss in any tournament this season was at Castres in Round 2 of the European Champions Cup. The Chiefs are unbeaten in their last twelve matches at Sandy Park in all tournaments since Worcester beat them there in Premiership Rugby in February.

Gloucester Rugby have won their last two Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches but have not won three in a row in the tournament for twelve months. Gloucester’s last three away fixtures in Premiership Rugby have ended in a draw, a loss and a win.

The last nine clashes between the two clubs in Premiership Rugby have been evenly split with four wins apiece plus a draw. Two of Gloucester’s three previous victories at Sandy Park have been by a solitary point, in 2014 and 2015, whilst there was also a 27-all draw in October 2016.
