Match Preview – Gloucester Rugby v Harlequins

Match Preview – Gloucester Rugby v Harlequins
The Cherry and Whites return to home soil this weekend, welcoming a Harlequins side that sit one place below them in the Gallagher Premiership after four rounds of exciting action on Saturday afternoon (KO 3pm)

The home side will be keen to bounce back from their first defeat of the season last time out, and face a Harlequins side equally keen to pick up the points.

After a pair of home wins so far this season against Northampton Saints and Bristol Bears, Johan Ackermann’s side will be doing all they can this weekend to make it a third.

Here are a number of players to watch this weekend.

Tom Hudson

Hudson made a really bright impression from the replacements’ bench last Sunday at Allianz Park, and his cameo is rewarded this week with an opportunity at full back. An evasive runner, and playmaker, Hudson will want to join the attacking line when he can and challenge a Harlequins’ rearguard.

Gerbrandt Grobler

The totemic South African lock scored on his first Gallagher Premiership start in Gloucester’s last outing at Kingsholm Stadium, and up against a strong Harlequins’ pack, he will be looking to keep the home side on the front foot.

Joe Marchant

A recent-product of the Harlequins’ Academy system, the fleet-footed centre has caused a lot havoc for defences up and down the Gallagher Premiership, combining pace, power and distribution he is a man to keep a very close eye on.

Joe Marler

The experienced prop made the headlines this week after announcing his international retirement, but on Harlequins’ duty he will still be a huge threat up front and around the park with his abrasive work in close quarters and scrummaging work.

Match Stats

Gloucester Rugby suffered a first reversal of the new Gallagher Premiership campaign on Sunday at Saracens. Gloucester’s only defeat in their last five matches at Kingsholm in all tournaments was to Bath in round 21 of Premiership Rugby last season.

Harlequins have won just once in Gallagher Premiership Rugby since round 17 last season, 51-23 at home to Sale in round 1. The Londoners have lost their last eleven away games in the tournament since beating Wasps at the Ricoh Arena twelve months ago, representing their worst run on their travels since 2000.

Each side won its respective home game when they met in Premiership Rugby last season whilst ‘Quins have won on two of their last four visits to Kingsholm in the tournament.
