The Premiership Rugby Cup continues this weekend, with the Cherry and Whites hosting Northampton Saints at Kingsholm Stadium, under the Friday Night Lights (KO 7:45pm)
Last time out on home soil the Cherry and Whites were in fine form, but came unstuck last week at Ashton Gate, and will be eager to recover their form in front of the home faithful against a Saints side unbeaten in the tournament.
Here are a number of players to watch this weekend.
Mark Atkinson
The centre is deployed at fly half this week, as the hosts look to utilise their playmakers to spark their attacking game. Atkinson will take the ball to the line and has the ability to create attacks from nothing.
Mikey Haywood
The hooker marks his 200th appearance for this week’s visitors, and congratulations on a wonderful milestone. A strong scrummager, and influential in the set piece, the forward battle will be a key one this weekend.
Last Time Out
Bristol Bears 21-13 Gloucester Rugby
Wasps Rugby 14-15 Northampton Saints
Head To Head
This is a fixture in which the home side is usually victorious, going on recent history, with the away side only winning on one occasion in their last five Gallagher Premiership Rugby matches.
Last season there were narrow victories in both games, Saints prevailing 22-19 at Franklin’s Gardens and Gloucester running out 29-24 winners at Kingsholm.
In the 2016-17 season there was a double for Northampton, who won 23-20 at home and then secured a nail-biting 13-12 victory at Kingsholm – with now departed fly-half Stephen Myler kicking six points and a late penalty try seizing the day.
