Nick Knowles named head coach of union side as Mike Tindall and Keith Senior prepare to lead out union and league legends in the Ideal Boilers Hybrid Cup
Rugby for Heroes ambassador and TV presenter Nick Knowles steps up as head coach for the South’s union side this Saturday 30 March as they take on the North in a Battle of the Codes that will see 35 minutes of rugby union versus 35 minutes of rugby league. Knowles will be joined by Olympian Kelly Sotherton who will bring her experience to the team of ex-professionals as the union side look to record their first win against their league opposition.

England Rugby World Cup winner and Gloucester Rugby legend Mike Tindall will be pulling on his boots as he leads a rugby union side full of internationals and ex-Gloucester Rugby players including Olivier Azam and Ludovic Mercier, against a formidable rugby league opposition captained by ex-Great Britain legend Keith Senior. The Ideal Boilers Hybrid Cup promises to be an epic hybrid clash played at Kingsholm this weekend to see if it’ll be league or union crowned rugby’s ultimate champions.

The fixture is in aid of Rugby for Heroes – a local charity that Mike Tindall is patron of – and Hull4Heroes. Both charities support service personnel transitioning from military to civilian life and the event aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by our service personnel and the role that the rugby community can play in supporting them.

“Playing such a match in a city as passionate about rugby as Gloucester is fantastic and uniting both rugby codes in support of our servicemen and women is testament to the power of our sport. I hope that the Kingsholm faithful will be out in force for the match on the 30th and I look forward to seeing you there." Mike Tindall, Patron of Rugby for Heroes

Tindall’s rugby union team will face a rugby league side full of internationals led by Keith Senior. A Rugby for Heroes ambassador himself, Senior says of the fixture:

“There’ll be no holding back once we get on the pitch on the 30thMarch to take on the union side. Both teams have plenty of big names turning out and I’m sure it’ll be a great afternoon of rugby in support of a brilliant cause.”

Matchday tickets are still available and priced at just £10 for adults, £5 for children.
