Over the past week, Gloucester Rugby has announced eight Academy re-signings as well as the signing of two new members of the set up from the U18 side.
To conclude the announcements, Head of Academy Peter Walton opened up on why the players have been signed and the future of the pathway of talent coming through.
Peter Walton: “It’s always pleasing when you can bring players through. Some of these lads have been under contract for the past two years, some have been on three-year contracts and it’s nice to keep them involved. The reason we give them contracts is because we think they have the potential to play in the Premiership.
“It’s their hard work and work ethic, which at Gloucester Rugby is what we pride ourselves on. It’s something that’s been instilled since they’ve come in from school. These lads are individuals but they like being part of a team.
“Most of them are a long way off where they are going to get and that’s player development. You’ve got to understand player development. These lads won’t reach their full potential until they are 27/28. These guys have shown their determination to put the work in.
“They’ve had their chances in certain games and they’ve impressed the senior coaches. Most of the season these lads have been training with the seniors and that’s been a real bonus having George come in and getting our Academy players training alongside senior players and they are already improving because of that.”
