Press Notes | Alex Craig looks ahead to Newcastle Falcons

Alex Craig spoke to the media to preview Gloucester Rugby’s upcoming fixture against Newcastle Falcons in the Gallagher Premiership. Here’s what the second row had to say.

On Sale performance

“Sale are a good side, a physical side. They’re sitting third in the table so they’re obviously doing really well. We knew it was going to be a tough game and we weren’t too far off it. It was tight and we did well to get back to 22-22 but our accuracy was slightly off at the end.

“Especially for our younger players we can try and learn from that. A lot of these games are really tight and there’s not a lot in it so it’s important that when we don’t get it quite right we learn from it and take it in to our own game and keep building.”

On how the squad is looking

“We’re a tight group and everyone trusts everyone. Everyone knows that when it comes to the weekend we’re going to do our job and we’re going to fight for each other and give it our best account. I feel we’re going in the right direction.”

On Newcastle Falcons

“Newcastle are a good side and they’re very well organised. Certainly at the start of the season, they started very strongly. They’re going to be a tough team to break down so it’s important that we’re red hot on our stuff and make sure that we’re focusing on our detail and make sure that we’re getting it right and that we are taking it to them. It’s going to be a good test.

“They’re four points above us and just one place so if we can get a win, we could get above them. Obviously we want to try and finish as high as we can and go out there and put in a performance that we’re proud of and try and build on it.”

On Six Nations experience

“I loved it and it was great to get a cap and play a couple of games for my country. It’s something that from a young age you try and do. I loved the opportunity and meeting up with all the boys up in Scotland and being part of that.

“At the same time I’ve enjoyed coming back down here and fitting into things and I’m trying my best to try and help the team push on and we’ve got six games left so we want to try and finish as strong as possible.”
