Gloucester Rugby host Sale Sharks at Kingsholm on Saturday in Round Five of the Gallagher Premiership. Ahead of the fixture, Jamal Ford-Robinson faced the press to preview the game.
On Sale Sharks
“They’re a good outfit for sure. I know their coach from my time at Northampton, Dorian West, so I know what messages he’ll be giving them and I know how he operates. We’re definitely in for a good test this weekend with Sale.”
On Gloucester Rugby’s improvements at the set piece
“It’s definitely showing and we can rely on it a bit more this season than last. Our scrum has become solid and our maul is becoming a weapon that we can use.
“There’s probably a number of things that have contributed to it but it’s improved for sure. That’s what guys in my position are here to do and it’s nice that we can sit down in a preview heading into a game and say that it is a real area that we want to go at a team.
“It’s nice that it’s working and that the coaches can see that it’s working and that they want to use it.”
How to convert the set piece dominance into points
“I suppose it’s just capitalising on our opportunities. You saw it in the Ulster game which was probably the first time it clicked and we were able to use our maul pretty much wherever we were on the field to either get a penalty, a try or a penalty try. We can use it to gain field position or points.
“We went to Exeter last week, double champs who have one hell of a pack and we took it to them there as well. It’s now about using that pressure that we’re building in the scrum and the maul and translating it into points.
“If we can start taking these opportunities that we’re earning and converting them into points, then that will be the difference and we can start climbing up the ladder a bit.”
