Gloucester Rugby is excited to be the first Premiership club to trial broadcasting referee decisions over the public address system.
The RFU, Premiership Rugby and BT Sport have come to an agreement to soft test this new initiative at tonight's game against Bath, with the aim being to give fans in the stadium a greater understanding of the decisions referees make. This will only happen when the referee decides to go to the TMO.
What does this mean for your match day experience?
When the referee signals for a TMO review, their microphone will be played over the PA system. The referee will announce what is being reviewed and the decision will then be discussed privately between the match official team, but still played out on the broadcast coverage.
Once a decision has been made and the referee will announce that they are ready to announce their decision, which will then be broadcast over the PA system.
We will be asking for feedback from fans who attend the game to help us with this going forward.
