Reigning Premier 15’s Champions far too strong for Gloucester-Hartpury

Report by Laura Shana

On a cold afternoon 2019/20 champions Saracens travelled to the Alpas Arena for the two teams first meet of the season. The Cherry & Whites started off fierce with Millie Wood scoring a great try and the hosts looked promising. But the visitors returned with a try from May Campbell levelling the scoreboard.

The visitors added a second try this time from Eloise Hayward, with Zoe Harrison adding the extras. A penalty try awarded to Saracens resulted in Ellie Underwood receiving a yellow card and the hosts going a player down. Moments later Saracens captain Lotte Clapp made use of the overlap and dotted down in the corner sending the visitors into the second half with a bonus point lead.

Almost immediately after the half time break Saracens second row Georgia Evans flew over the line and Harrison added the extras. Some frantic play from both teams saw possession go back and forth through penalties and free kicks but this shortly ended with Saracens’ May Campbell go over for her second of the game. Gloucester’s frustration and bad luck grew as Saracens were awarded a penalty on their 5m which saw May Campbell go over for her hattrick that concluded the game.
