Stephen Varney to start for Italy U20s against Wales
Gloucester Rugby Academy scrum-half Stephen Varney is set to start for Italy U20s against the country of his birth when the Azzuri take on Wales this weekend.

The scrum-half and son of former Neath flanker Adrian Varney was born in Wales but qualifies for Italy through his mother Valeria.

He has already caught the eye at international level since joining the Gloucester Rugby Academy, scoring two tries for Italy against Wales in the final game of the U18s Six Nations festival at Kingsholm last year.

He trained with the first team squad last summer, before participating in the Premiership Rugby 7s at Franklin’s Gardens last September, scoring a vital try as Gloucester Rugby lifted the plate.
