How Gloucester Rugby is planning to say ‘Thank You’ this Remembrance Day
The Poppy Appeal and Remembrance period in 2018 will be the culmination of The Royal British Legion’s ‘Thank You’ movement to mark the end of the First World War centenary. And Gloucester Rugby as a club intends to be as fully involved as possible.

Since its launch in August, the ‘Thank You’ movement has encouraged the nation to show their gratitude to the entire generation who lived through the war, served, sacrificed and changed our world.

As a club, Gloucester Rugby is proud to have a long association with the Armed Forces and will start to say ‘Thank You’ this week.

In recent years, the club has designed and worn a specially designed ‘Poppy’ shirt in fixtures leading up to Remembrance Day.

This season’s ‘Poppy’ shirt will be worn in the home Premiership Rugby Cup fixtures against Wasps and Northampton Saints. It will be available as a limited edition for supporters to purchase with £5 from each purchase going direct to the Royal British Legion.

The Wasps fixture has been designated as ‘Armed Forces Day’ at Kingsholm, and Gloucester Rugby will be proud to welcome a number of members of the Forces to the game, as well as raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

Present at the game will be representatives from the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps based at Imjim Barracks, Innsworth as well as the Gurkhas who will perform The Khukuri dance.

The Khukuri dance is the title given to a display pattern the Gurkhas perform on various occasions such as Ceremonial parades, cultural shows and especially during the performance by the Band of Brigade of Gurkhas.

It is believed that the dance was derived from the occasion of celebration, when the soldiers returned back from the war with glory of victory.

We are asking Gloucester Rugby supporters to join us in the build-up to Remembrance Sunday, in saying ‘Thank You’ to the entire First World War generation who served, sacrificed and changed our world.
